Chickatilo's First VICTIM

On December 22, 1978, Chikatilo committed his first murder. Chikatilo lured a 9-year-old girl named Yelena Zakotnova to an old house which he had secretly purchased in a small town called Shakhty. He attempted to rape her, but failed to get an erection. He ended up choking her and stabbing her three times. Chikatilo ejaculated in the process of stabbing the girl. After Zakotnova's murder, Chikatilo was able to achieve and orgasm only through stabbing and slashing people to death. Zakotnova's body was found 2 days after the murder and there were many pieces of evidence that linked Chikatilo to the killing of Zakotnova. Spots of Zakotnova's blood were found in the snow right next to the house Chikatilo bought, neighbors said that Chikatilo was present in that home the day of the killing, and a witness gave a report of a person who perfectly resembled Chikatilo who she had seen talking to Zakotnova at the bus stop wehre Zakotnova was last seen. Besides all of these pieces of evidence, Chikatilo wasn't found guilty. A man named Aleksandr Kravchenko, who as a teenager, had served a prison sentence for the rape and murder of a teenage girl, subsequently confessed to the killing. Kravchenko contracted his confession stating his confession had been obtained under extreme durress, yet Kravchenko was eventually retried and executed for the murder.
Chickatilo's Second victim

Chikatilo's next murder occured in September, 1981. He tried having sex with a 17-year-old named Larisa Tkachenko. He again was unable to achieve an erection, so he got furious and beat her in the head with his fists. Tkachenko started to scream so in order to stop her screaming, he filled her mouth with dirt and then strangled her. Chikatilo had no knife so he resorted to using his teeth to mutilate Tkachenko's body. Chikatilo bit off Tkachenko's nipples which was the first sign of cannibalism.
Chickatilo's last victim

Chickatilo's last victim was killed on November 6, 1990. The victim was a 22 year old woman named Svetlana Korostik. Korostik went with him to the woods near Leskhoz station where she was severly beaten, stabbed and mutilated. Chikatilo removed the tip of Korostik's tongue and nipples and ate them at the scene before he covered her naked body with leaves. When Chikatilo left the scene, a policeman noticed Chickatilo approach a well and wash his face. The policman was suspicious of Chikatilo because he had a red streak on his cheek and the only reason people went to the woods near the Leshokz station at that time was to collect mushrooms, but Chikatilo did not look like he was collecting mushrooms. The policeman filed a report on Chikatilo. On November 13, Korostik's body was found. The report that the policeman filed made Chikatilo a suspect. Chickatilo was familiar to several officers involved in the case, because he had been questioned in 1984, and had been placed upon a 1987 suspect list. Investigators were also able to place him in various towns and cities at times where several victims linked to the investigation had been killed. Chikatilo's former students informed the investigators that Chikatilo had been fired from his teaching positions due to complaints
of sexual assault from several students. Police placed Chikatilo under surveillance. In many instances, he was observed to approach young women or children and engage them in conversation. If the woman or child broke off the conversation, Chikatilo would try to seek another conversation partner. After six days of surveillance, Chikatilo left his house and went to Novocherkassk, attempting to make contact with children he met on his way. When Chikatilo exited a cafe, he was arrested by four police officers. When Chikatilo was questioned, he denied killing anyone until November 29, when he admitted to his psychologist that he was responsible for the murders. After going through many trials, it was finally decided that Chikatilo would be executed. On January 4, 1994 , Chikatilo was taken to a prison room and executed with a single gunshot behind the right ear.
